Anu Hasan's Kofee with Anu program has been one of the very popular TV shows in tamil regional television channels. She has been able to maintain the momentum for the program and it is like a great missing between the seasons. Koffee with Anu started as Koffee with Suchi which was being inspired by Koffee with Karan in Star Plus. If not exactly similar to Hindi version of the program, Koffee with Anu manages to satisfy the expectations of tamil audiences. There were quite many variants in the show between the seasons and every bit has been entertaining. Best of Koffee with Anu is the best amongst the season where you get to see the more entertaining parts of different guests interview.

Television interview featuring celebrities/guests were not so interesting earlier and not too frequent as in weekly basis. We used to have television interviews of the celebrities during festival only. Koffee with Anu made a huge impact in having interviews with the celebrities every week and more interesting part has been the home work that they do to speak about the incidents of the celerbrities life. With the 3 seasons completed in Koffee with Anu and all of us waiting for the next season to launch, I thought I should write about this show and anchor Anu Hasan here.

With guests from various fields but most of them from the film industry made to the show. Within film industry we have seen people from Musicians, Directors, Actors, Comedians, Supporting actors, Evergreen artists from which we still remember some of the most memorable events. Apart from film industry, we had also seen people from Sports, Hospital, Politicians in the show. I always thought that they could increase the show with people from non-film industry but after all it becomes more entertaining with popular figures in the show.

Anu and her team has been doing lot of homework to bring celebrities to the show and get funny incidents, photos, albums into the show. Apart from Koffee with Anu, Anu Hasan also hosted En Samayal Arayil aired during the weekends afternoon which showcased her cooking talent. This show was a tailor made for her which had her cooking style and her friends tasting the food. I would have liked Star Vijay TV to continue this program with few more celebrities.

There were several different segments in the Koffee with Anu program and I wanted to list them here for our remembrance,

Koffee Award - Guest select a person from the film industry who is given a coffee cup autographed by the guest. This coffee cup is the koffee award.

On TV Segment - This segment features friends or family sharing their thoughts about the guest.

Rapid Fire - Questions are fired in quick succession at the guests. Best part is the gift hamper to best answered guest.

Nostalgic Moments - The host brings on to the set, something really special to the celebrity... A special object, photographs or person from the past and the nostalgia is shared.

Prank Call - Guest get into act to make prank call and make contraversial statements to them which will make the person on phone to speak out something in camera.

Koffee Tarrot - The host has a set of photographs of people, usually celebrities, the guests are acquainted with. She places the photographs face down on a table. Each guest picks up three photographs and speaks about their views or experiences with those celebrities for a few minutes.

Anu Haasan marries a Brit

Popular actress and TV presenter Anu Hasan married her long-time British boyfriend Graham recently. Graham is an investment banker based in London and Anu met him through a music website and as their friendship developed, love blossomed.

Anu Graham (as she prefers to be addressed now) says that she was single for five years after her arduous divorce from her first marriage and that only after meeting Graham did she even think of getting committed again. The actress-cum-television host said that she took her time to make her decision after Graham proposed and that her mother supported her all the while.

The wedding was a very private one and happened in typical Iyengar style and was attended only by people very close to her. She adds that Kamal Haasan, Shruti Haasan, Akshara Haasan, Gauthami, Suhasini Maniratnam were the ones who stayed all the while and gave their consent and support. Graham’s parents also flew down from London for the wedding. Anu said that she will be shuttling between London and Chennai and she does not have plans to settle down here.

Anu Haasan to get married

Anu Haasan, daughter of Chandra Haasan and niece of Kamal Haasan, will soon enter into wed lock with the London-based businessman Graham. The actress and television personality got engaged to Graham at her hometown Trichy recently.
It may be recalled that Anu was married to Vikas about 10 years ago but later divorced him on grounds of incompatibility.

She has acted in a number of Tamil films including Indira in which she was the leading lady. The film was directed by Suhasini Mani Ratnam, her cousin. Anu is also a popular television host and has modeled for a lot of commercials.

Anu Haasan is the darling of Tamil television and deservedly so.

Vivacious, chirpy and enthusiastic, the scion of the Haasan family (she's Kamal Haasan's niece) has many facets -- actress, talk show host, game show host, model, entrepreneur and martial arts expert. And she has a hunger for more.

In a frank interview with rediff.com's Pavithra Srinivasan, she shares insights on life, her way. Excerpts:

Your talk show on Vijay TV, Koffee with Anu made waves right from the very first season, and is going strong. What was your first season like? What is your modus operandi?

My first episode was rather nerve racking. I knew that the shoot could have two outcomes -- I might end up offending the guest, or look foolish. While looking foolish is something I do with considerable panache -- I have had a lot of practice, you see [laughs], the former was a matter of concern.

I was also very clear that my strengths were not glamour, or a generally svelte stylish look. So I started off the shoot with a clear idea of what my advantages were not. As I started doing more shoots, I realised that it was irrelevant how I looked. The guests wanted to talk, and more importantly, to be 'allowed' to talk, which I did. I am very clear who the star on the show is. It is not me; it is the guest I am talking to. That was, and continues to be my 'modus operandi,' if you will.

How different do you find the current season, when compared to your first? Do you think the viewer-ship, audience reaction etc, have changed? If so, how?

The elements in each season were changed by the channel and in all honesty, I liked and disliked some of the ideas. But as an anchor, I can only express a certain amount of reluctance to execute ideas. So, I do the best I can with what I am given. Just like life.

There is a steady following for Koffee with Anu, or so I am led to believe. If the forum on the Internet is anything to go by, people like the show as long as the guests are someone they have not seen before.

Also, in the beginning, I did get a lot of comments about my appearance. But when they realised that I did not put too much importance on looks, and that I refused to conform to public expectations if it was something that I did not like, those comments faded away. They have not completely disappeared, but I think people realised it is a futile task to try and remind me that I am not slim or glamourous.

You were among the first to have a proper talk show of sorts on Tamil TV. What was it like, interacting with guests, on a one-to-one basis?

It is a pleasure to get to know someone who has achieved something in life. I have always maintained that I am very fortunate to be able to be in a position where I can get a synopsis of their life lessons. I have learnt many things from my guests -- humility, pride, patience, how to live life and how not to take life seriously. People assume that simply because I was born a Haasan, I automatically know everyone in the industry. My world has always been outside the film industry, so it was actually a novel experience getting to know the people I was 'supposed' to know!

In addition to the talk show, you've hosted a game show on Jaya TV and acted in several soaps as well. Could you share your experiences about those?

The game show was a quiz and it was lot of fun. I interacted with run-of-the-mill people and it was great to see how affectionate they were to me because they liked Koffee with Anu. And when they realised that I am about as normal as the next person, they become even warmer.

My favourite TV serial was Rekha [ Images ] IPS. I loved it because I was a tough police officer beating up the baddies, doing stunts, car and bike chases. The other serials and movies were good at the time because they taught me what little I know about the technical side of shooting and film making.

You've started a cookery show as well -- En Samayal Araiyil. Could you tell us about that? The show seems to be modelled loosely on Nigella Lawson's show. Is it true?

We have finished the series of En Samaiyal Araiyil. At least that is what the director leads me to believe. I loved doing the show; I don't think I will ever pass up the opportunity to do a cookery show. But modelled on Nigella Lawson? Really? I always thought she was stylish and sensuous. You are actually paying me a compliment!

Jokes apart, I don't think it was modelled on Nigella Lawson's show. It was the channel trying to piggy back on the Koffee anchor's popularity and entwine it with the anchor's love for food and cooking. It was a great idea and it really worked while it was on air. I have only had positive feedback about the show.

You started your career as the heroine in Indra (directed by Suhasini Mani Ratnam). How do you think life has changed, since then? What are the roles you're currently working on, in movies?

First off, I don't have a career truly. I just do what I feel like doing. I enjoy acting, so I act if the roles interest me. I enjoy anchoring, so I do that as well, if the concept interests me. I did a series of roles in movies last year for the simple reason that I was dying in all of them. Now that was fun!

Currently, I am playing a role in Maanja Velu as Karthik's wife, and in Erandu Mugham as Sathyaraj sir's wife. I am usually cast in the 'traditional but strong, firm but loving woman' mould and I suppose I do a fairly decent job of fitting in.

You're a successful media icon. What advice would you offer aspiring youngsters?

The three words -- 'successful media icon' -- are the very definition of transience. To aspiring youngsters I would say, 'Do not work for success. Work so you can do the best you can do.' Fame is so fickle and the happiness from that will never last. Also when you attribute your happiness to external factors, your happiness is always nebulous. Feel happy for the accolades, use the criticism as feedback and improve yourself, but bottom line -- 'don't care too much.'

What ae your future plans?

I never plan. After all, life is what happens when you are busy planning. I might do anything. The whole world is your oyster, is it not? I am not afraid of failure. I am not enamoured by success. Life has to be fun and fulfilling, and that is all I look for. If at all I have any plans, I would say I plan on being very happy and contented indeed.

Season 3 of koffee with Anu started of with a bang.. it was evergreen young actress Nathiya in the show with Anu sharing the koffee mug. To tell about the season 3.. I will write it in a separate post and now in this only about the episode. Nathiya's father even came to the show for sometime. Best part was the directors/actors speaking about her.. it was Jeyam Ravi, Jeyam Raja, Sundar C speaking about the actress who acted with her in the comback journey in tamil films for Nathiya.. later in the show it was time for calling anyone of guest choice and speaking with them.. it was actor Suresh who was called.. Anu and Nathiya made fun initially speaking together and confusing Suresh and later he identified Nathiya.

The show had Anu speaking with Nathiya about her passion, marriage life and the comeback in the industry and lot more.. Nathiya said she was not passionate to act in films and it was just her hobby.. :)

Koffee with Anu chat show on Vijay TV which has run across two successful seasons has had guests from Kollywood, politics, music industry and so on. This show is known for its novelty, witty appeal and informal style. The various segments of the show include Koffee tarot and a rapid fire round.

After two successful seasons, the show opens its third run on December 6. Hosted by Anu Haasan, it brings together celebrities from different walks of life including actors, filmmakers, playback singers, composers, politicians, writers and artists. I am eagerly waiting for this season to start and obviously it will be a super hit show in the channel. From now, Anu will start getting requests to invite many celebrities and hopefully whomever we wish are invited, interviewed in this season.

Anu was back with bang in Deepavali in Koffee with Anu, special edition on Deepavali day.. It was nice to see Suriya and Udayanidhi who worked together in their newly released film Adhavan... KS Ravikumar was missing in the show.. I wished he was available in the show. This episode took place in a terrace of some hotel and not the usual sets of Koffee with Anu. It was Suriya who entered the show first and started chatting with Anu and later joined by Udayanidhi Stalin, producer of the film. Suriya was looking with big mustache for his forthcoming film Singam which is to be a action packed film. Suriya and Udayanidhi were speaking very frankly and Suriya made it very friendly with Udayanidhi by calling him boss in every sentence.. it was vice versa even from him calling Suriya boss and so as Anu joined them in calling in same manner.

They shared their experience in the shooting of Aadhavan film and the diffculties they faced in the film. They even touched upon speaking about KS Ravikumar's direction and his expertise. My favourite Rapid fire round was there in the show and Suriya's answers got him the gift. Udayanidhi's questions were lil political and it made him embarras. It was funny when he said he would want Namitha as his heroine if he acts in film. Suriya's reply for that was very very funny. Rapid fire was followed by Koffee Taro and Koffee award being given to Dhanush (by Suriya) and Kamal Haasan (by Udayanidhi Stalin).
